Maximising the value of London

Cross River Trams complementary measures

Complementary measures are projects which, while beneficial on their own, further enhance the benefits provided by the Cross River Tram scheme. The programme encompasses physical as well as social and economic projects. The physical projects are primarily public realm improvement schemes in each of the CRT boroughs.

Projects recently implemented include improvements to:

  • Waterloo Kings College Plaza & The Cut in Lambeth;
  • Nursery Row Park, Victory Park and the EcoPod in Southwark; and
  • Gate Street & Bernard Street in Camden

For more information about the CRT complementary physical projects please open the documents on the right hand side.

The socio economic projects were developed as part of the Tram Routes into Opportunities (TRIO) programme, and sought to deliver a wide range of economic and community benefit outputs and outcomes. These projects, which are funded by the European Regional Development Fund, include the:

  • Small Business and Street Market Healthcheck studies which led into the Success in Business programme providing advice and guidance to small businesses. The programme has been delivered by Red Ochre, a social enterprise which was commissioned by CRP to provide support to small businesses and street market traders in Lambeth, Southwark, Westminster and Camden in the form of one to one surgeries and written publications.  The two businesses booklets produced provide information on Financial Management and Street Market Case Studies (click on links below)

  • Access to Transport Jobs project which has placed over 30 people into transport related jobs and helped over 60 gain relevant qualifications,
  • Travel Horizons project which increased community integration and expanded the travel horizons of participants through information and support so they can better engage in the employment, recreational and social opportunities that London has to offer.

To find out more about the social and economic projects associated with CRT please see the last report on the left hand side of this page.  The recommendations contained in this report have been developed to maximize the benefits that the Cross River Tram scheme can provide. As a Cross River Partnership commissioned study, no undertakings, whether financial or otherwise, have been agreed to regarding the proposed measures from any organization or local authority. CRP will seek to develop these proposals into funded schemes and will seek funding from a variety of sources. If you or your organization are interested in assisting with any of these proposals, please contact Cross River Partnership on 0207 926 1132
