Street improvements
A programme of street enhancements funded by Cross River Partnership has delivered high quality streetscape improvements to roads in riverside central London, delivering real benefits to people living, working or visiting the area.
Improvements have been made to more than four kilometres of public walkways and roads focusing on enhancing the environment of key pedestrian and cycle routes between Underground, train and bus stations and also river piers to form a more comprehensive network.
In particular, this project has delivered improvements to street lighting, pavement and road surfaces, pedestrian crossing facilities, traffic calming measures and implementing soft landscaping such as the planting of trees. A number of projects have also seen the introduction of CCTV (closed circuit television) to provide a safer public environment.
A key aim is to promote pedestrian activity and to ensure the area is accessible for all visitors and residents.
Geographical area
