South Westminster is a unique part of London; the seat of government and one of the most high profile areas in the country. It is also home to approximately 40,000 people where the extremes of wealth and poverty sit side by side.

South Westminster has been prioritised as one of Westminster City Council's neighbourhood renewal areas, because some of its communities fall within the top 20% most deprived parts of the country.

A renewal co-ordinator, Sue Hannah, has been appointed and a renewal plan developed and published. The renewal plan sets out a vision to improve services for the most disadvantaged people in the community, allowing them to share in all that the area has to offer. The plan builds on the work of a group of committed individuals from local voluntary and community organisations known as the South Westminster Community Network.  A South Westminster Steering Group now oversees delivery of the plan. The group has representatives from a range of organisations who deliver key public services in the area. The South Westminster Steering Group also has the support of the Westminster City Partnership (Westminster's Local Strategic Partnership), the South Westminster Community Network and a range of other service providers who want to work in partnership to deliver the vision for south Westminster. The renewal of south Westminster is an evolving process. The renewal plan is the first step towards delivering long term, sustainable improvements to make south Westminster a great place to live and work, providing opportunities for the whole community.
