There has been overwhelming support for Cross River Tram. Transport for Londons 2002 consultation into attitudes towards the tram showed 92 per cent of respondents were in favour.

In addition to extensive public support, Cross River Tram has a highly influential Friends of Group, chaired by Sir David Bell, chairman of Pearson and the Financial Times Group. The Friends of the Cross River Tram is a supporters group of major businesses along its route in central London. Friends already include:
